Cindy Jordan died of a broken heat on April 8, 2004
CindyÕs daughter, Malia, wasplaced in in a semi-open adoption with Dr.
Burns, a clinical psychologist. Dr. Burns failed to keep the promises of
contact she had made to Cindy and published a book called Fast Track
Adoption, advisng prospective adoptive parents how to adopt a baby Òthe
fast and easy wayÓ by gaining the trust of Òpotential birthmothers.Ó After
reading the book, Jordan believed
that the step-by-step instructions given to hopeful parents described her own
manipulation by Dr. Burns. Jordan, who had
been active on an Internet site for
mothers who surrendered, posted in January 2004: ÒI know now that all the
bonding [Dr. Burns] did with me was all part of a planÉto make me feel good
at the timeÉand to ÔensureÕ a successful candidate for placementÉI feel
sick...Ó Jordan went into a depression from which she was not able to recover leaving her two teenage sons without a mother. |
